A tiny dwarf seahorse curls its tail around a blade of seagrass, blending into the green meadow around it. Small Wonders is part of Connected by Water, a collection inspired by the places and wildlife of the Florida Reef Tract.
Dwarf seahorses grow to only about one inch long. Their small size and camouflage help them blend among the grasses where they spend much of their lives. Like other seahorses, the male carries the developing young in a brood pouch and gives birth to miniature seahorses that are ready to swim on their own. Healthy seagrass meadows provide these remarkable little fish with the habitat they need to survive.
This small original celebrates the beauty and resilience of life hidden among the seagrass.
Size: 6 × 6 inches
Medium: Mixed media, including acrylic on paper
Surface: Cradled wooden panel
