A diver plants a small seagrass plug in a sandy underwater area. Rebuilding the Meadow is part of Connected by Water, a collection inspired by the places and wildlife of the Florida Reef Tract.
Seagrass restoration helps rebuild underwater meadows damaged by boat groundings, propellers, and other human impacts. Divers transplant small plugs or planting units of healthy seagrass into damaged areas, giving the plants a chance to take root and spread. Restoring these meadows brings back important feeding and nursery habitat, improves water quality, stabilizes sediment, and supports the larger Florida Keys ecosystem.
This small original celebrates the people helping seagrass meadows grow again.
