A fisherman casts across bright blue water as mangrove roots reach into the sea below. Mangrove Lines brings together life above and beneath the water in one small scene. It is part of Connected by Water, a collection inspired by the places and wildlife of the Florida Reef Tract.
Mangroves connect life above and below the water. Their tangled roots trap sediment, improve water quality, reduce waves and storm damage, and store carbon. Beneath the surface, they provide protected nursery habitat for many fish, including snook and other prized sport fish. Healthy mangroves also support recreational fishing and tourism, which are an important part of life in the Florida Reef Tract.
This original celebrates the mangrove forests that shelter fish and help sustain the waters and communities around them.
