Red mangrove roots reach into clear blue water, creating shelter for fish and other small marine life. Life Among the Roots is part of Connected by Water, a collection inspired by the places and wildlife of the Florida Reef Tract.
Red mangroves grow closest to the water. Their reddish prop roots and long, pointed leaves make them easy to recognize. Their young, called propagules, can float until they find a place to take root and grow. Beneath the surface, tangled roots shelter fish and give barnacles, oysters, crabs, and other small marine life a place to thrive.
This small original celebrates the rich community that grows among mangrove roots.
