A diver tends young staghorn coral growing on underwater nursery trees. Growing Hope is part of Connected by Water, a collection inspired by the places and wildlife of the Florida Reef Tract.
Staghorn coral is grown in underwater nurseries to help restore Florida’s damaged reefs. Small fragments hang from “coral trees,” where sunlight, nutrients, and moving water help them grow. In six to nine months, they can become reef-ready colonies. Divers care for the coral and harvest new fragments that can be returned to the reef to help rebuild this threatened habitat.
This small original celebrates the people and careful work helping Florida’s reefs grow again.
